The “social help desk” has opened in Naples at the SALP union offices, an innovative pilot project in Campania dedicated to protecting the rights of the homeless and the most vulnerable categories, and is available at the toll-free number 081/2301089 ).

The service represents a turning point in access to fundamental rights for those living in extremely marginalized situations: SALP, in light of Law no. 176/2024 which guarantees access to the National Health Service to homeless people even in the absence of registered residence, provides free administrative assistance to obtain registration with the ASL for access to a general practitioner, social benefits and for the ISEE. A project that will soon be extended to other Italian Regions.

SALP (Sindacato Acai Lavoratori e Pensionati), which was born from a historical experience of Christian associationism, confirms itself as a highly active trade union reality on a national scale, with over 1300 offices in Italy and a concrete presence in the key sectors of welfare and work. What distinguishes SALP is its commitment to the third sector, in particular towards the most vulnerable segments of the population.

“Living on the streets – says SALP President Raffaele Iavazzi , is an inhuman and extremely difficult condition that is usually caused by a personal crisis accompanied by the lack of a social and economic network. It is not only the people who live on the streets who are homeless, but also those who experience more or less serious housing hardship that is a determining part of a broader situation of extreme poverty. Our duty – he continues – is to listen to them and offer, within our possibilities, concrete solutions. The commitment of all the collateral structures of the single SALP system (Caf, patronage, agricultural federations, tenants, housekeepers and carers) is fundamental for the realization of this project and for the development of this union reality”.

The SALP Union deals with the protection of the rights of workers, pensioners, citizens and their families, and the most vulnerable categories. It is a signatory, together with other national organizations, of national collective agreements deposited with the CNEL for sectors such as tourism, domestic workers and carers, the tertiary sector, metalworking, agricultural companies and cooperatives.

“In parallel to our union activity – adds Massimo Scherillo, head of Campania for the SALP Union – we are also involved in solidarity by promoting charity events with the social promotion project Uguali nelle diversi, which organizes sporting events aimed at young people belonging to the most disadvantaged, fragile and differently abled categories, and for fundraising, such as the recent “Derby dei Campioni” with celebrities and football champions held on May 27 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, of which SALP was a sponsor. An event whose proceeds were donated to charity to the Santobono Pausilipon Pediatric Hospital and to the UNICA association which, with the strong commitment of the PM Catello Maresca, is active in spreading the Culture of Legality and against gender violence”.
